Can we just be happy for Wizkid.
I know it is a lot to ask and sometimes the brother can make it difficult for us but still you got to give it to him.
He won’t be the hottest artist in Nigeria forever. Everyone has their season. 2face had his. D’banj had his. It’s time for Wizkid… and Davido.
Oh, this post is about Wizkid.
Wizkid has given us tunes we won’t forget in a hurry. “Hola at your Boy” is still a classic; “Ojuelegba” is a magical song and is VERY relatable and “Final (Baba Nla)” is also on point. The brother is doing it big.
And there is “One Dance,” the hot new single from Drake that features the StarBoy Boss. The song got to No.1 on the UK Singles Charts and now it’s at the top of the Billboard Charts.
There are a lot of musicians in America that have not been blessed like this. From Missy Elliott to Nicki Minaj; heck even One Direction cannot boast.
And there is Wizkid.
A young Nigerian boy with a dream
(and a crappy attitude) is the first Nigerian musician to achieve this feat.
From social media to conversations with friends; a lot of people are finding it hard to believe. First they want to see proof; then they want to know what he even did in the song; they they say “It’s not even his song sef.”
When Drake topped the chart as a featured artist (“What’s My Name?” and “Work” by Rihanna) no one tried hard to invalidate it for him. No one put it in question. Why can’t we just be happy for Wizkid? The guy is taking Africa to the world and paving the way for other Nigerian musicians to dream. There was a time when MTV and BET was a dream for any African performer. There was a time when winning an Oscar was a dream for any African. It’s in celebrating small victories like this that we can inspire and motivate a generation of entertainers to put in the work and reach for the stars.
Please let us not overthink this thing. Wizkid is winning right now so let us be happy for him.
