July was not the best month for me.
I even had suicidal thoughts at a point. True story.
I am fine. It’s not like I was going to slit my wrists or anything. I don’t have that kind of courage but I thought about dying and imagined life could be better once I am gone.
I spoke to someone (a therapist) about my issues and he said something to me that was very important.
He said “Count your blessings.”
Sounds familiar, right?
I was focusing on the negatives and ignoring the positives. I was letting all my problems define me. I was focused on the end and I was not enjoying the process. I was not living.
This August, I have decided to Count My Blessings.
It has been very hard but it’s been worth it every step of the way. Some days I am thankful for my family, other days I am thankful for the ability to smile. Some times I am thankful for the chance to do what I love and other times I am just thankful for Instagram.
More importantly, I have learnt to live. A lot of times we just go through life and put unnecessary pressure on ourselves. The words of Sid Caesar are ring true: “In between goals is a thing called life that has to be lived and enjoyed.” Whenever issues come and troubles get in your way, always remember it is only for a short time. Tell yourself that right here and now – you choose to be happy. Live your truth. There is nothing as horrible as living a lie. There is freedom in truth. Love yourself. It is the only way you can truly be a light and love others. Take risks. You never know what is on the other side. Spend time with your loved ones. Let go of toxic people (family or friends). You do not need all that negative energy. Worrying never helped anyone and it won’t help you. Be the best you can be.
There will always be one problem or another but remembering all the good that has happened will do a lot of good for you. Counting your blessings is key but also remember, great vibes only!
When upon life’s billows you are tempest tossed,
When you are discouraged, thinking all is lost,
Count your many blessings, name them one by one,
And it will surprise you what the Lord hath done.
