Tyler Perry’s Temptation: Confessions of a Marriage Counselor. A Pre-Review

Posted on Posted in Sweet Nothings

I have been looking forward to this movie since 2011 so you could have imagined how I felt when I saw the trailer for the movie. Before I begin to talk to much, just watch the trailer and from then we can continue our gist.

The movie is an adaptation of the Tyler Perry Play, The Marriage Counselor. The movie stars Jurnee Smollet-Bell, Lance Gross, Kim Kardashian, Vanessa Williams, Robbie Jones. Smollett plays the central character in the film.  Her character is caught between Gross and Jones.  Smollett’s Judith is an Ivy League educated relationship expert who gives marital advice for a living, yet can’t seem to follow that advice in her own marriage to Bryce (Gross).  Bored with her life, she breaks her professional code and begins an affair with a smooth talking client (Jones).  After the initial excitement of their torrid relationship wears off, Judith realizes that she’s made a grave mistake.  It will take every ounce of courage and forgiveness for Judith to escape the dangerous situation she finds herself in. I think this movie is going to be amazing. I wanna commend Tyler Perry for casting actors who wouldn’t be considered by mainstream Hollywood for lead roles. Jurnee Smollet last major movie was The Great Debaters, Lance Gross last major movie was Our Family Wedding and Robbie Jones last major movie was Hurricane Season with Forest Whitaker (Or you could include his role in Hellcats). These three actors play the major characters in this movie and I know they are going to be brilliant. I get excited when I see people of color take on lead roles and do a good job with it.

Now there is the storyline, if you had watched the play, you will have an idea of what the story line is but looking at the trailer, you can clearly see that Mr. Perry has chosen to go a different direction with this movie. I feel like 1 Corinthians 9:19-23 is Tyler Perry’s new watch word. If he had strictly followed the way the play was structured, I assure you that the movie would have been a bit boring. With this movie, he has made the movie very relatable to people who are young and in relationships.

I think this will be an interesting movie. I might be wrong but lets wait till then. For now, this is one of the movies I can’t wait to watch this year.
